Information about the municipality Weissenkirchen
Weissenkirchen
Its 2000-year history has left positive traces in Weißenkirchen. The fVillageified church, built in 1190, is imposing. It towers above the picturesque alleyways with their historic houses and splendid wine-growing estates.
Joching
A classical wine-growers' hamlet where the Riesling originally came from. It is characterised by the powerful Prandtauerhof with its Saint Magdalene chapel and the "Winebergstraße" (Vineyard Road). The village is connected with the name of Josef Jamek, a pioneer of viniculture.
Wösendorf
Its market square, its church and its narrow romantic alleys as well as interesting flower arrangements are the characteristic features of Wösendorf. Old monastic courtyards hint at the former significance of the settlement, which today is regarded as a popular tourist destination and sought-after "HeurigenVillage", a place where the year's new wines are on offer.
ST. Michael
A dreamy hamlet with only 13 houses and hardly three dozen inhabitants, but of the utmost historical impVillageance. From 987 on St. Michael was the only parish far and wide. From here pastoral care was provided for the people in the Wachau and the southern Waldviertel for a long time.
